Australian banks to reduce contactless fees

Banks in Australia have been given an April deadline to start offering dual-network options in order to reduce added fees and surcharges on merchants when customers make contactless card payments, according to News.com.au.

Contactless payments made via debit card have been going through as credit, costing some Australian merchants up to $290 million a year in fees. Now, the addition of eftpos, a new debit network, could mitigate some of those fees.
